  Week 3 Sept. 25 - Sept. 29
Goals:
1. Know the vocabulary: atoms, elements, molecules and compounds
2. Know that gases are made of tiny particles, moving at fast speeds and separated by relatively large distances.
3. Know that chemical reactions are the rearranging of atoms.
4. Know the meaning of subscripts and coefficients.

Weekly Schedule

Monday: Review and catch up from last week
Block Day: Lab on Electrolysis lab handout, start writing conclusion
2 homework assignments: Reading with Questions (sorry this isn't available electronically),
Finish Conclusions*
Thursday: Go over homework and start poster assignment in groups flashcards for review - you finish them
Friday: Finish and present posters, quiz

Notebook contents:
1. Data table from electrolysis experiment
2. Conclusion from electrolysis experiment
3. Reading on Structure of Water
4 Worksheet about reading

*In the right column of the page is a guide for writing conclusions. The focus for this conclusion is to write about their success testing the claim that the 2 in H2O means that there are two hydrogens for each oxygen.

Link to Check Grades

To use this link you will need to know three things:
1. The period that the student is in science. (either 2, 3, or 4)
2. The student's id. (This is the student's birthdate. Two digits for month, two digits for day and two digits for year. No spaces, dashes or slashes. For example, January 7, 1991 would be 010791. In three situations students have had the same birthday and I have had to make a slight alteration to this code. If you are unable to log in please email me and I will send you the ID that I am using.)
3. The student's password. (This is their six digit student number from Franklin. It is on most official forms and on their student ID card, that they use for checking out books. Once again feel free to email me for this number.)

I will usually update grades Monday morning.

Second Week Goals
1. Describe similarities and differences in chemical reactions.
2. Describe similarities and differences in properties of gases.
3. Develop and follow procedures to make Carbon Dioxide (CO2)and Hydrogen (H2)
4. Know properties of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Hydrogen (H2)
5. Be able to write equations for the reactions that produce CO2 and H2 and know the formulas and names of the chemicals

Second Week Activities

Monday: Return and go over previous week quizzes and notebooks,Reading about CO2 and H2
Homework: Answer questions about the reading
Block Day: Lab -- Gases Part 2 - Reactions to make Carbon Dioxide and Hydrogen Link to lab handout with questions
Homework: Finish the Individual Answer Sheet for Lab, and write a paragraph about what all chemical reactions have in common, citing evidence from our reactions in class.
Thursday: Demonstrations with H2 and CO2, Videos: The air we Breathe and Oxygen, Flashcards - Partner work Link to flashcards
Friday: Review, Catch-Up, Quiz

Notebook Contents:
1. Readings on Hydrogen and Carbon Dioxide
2. T Chart notes on Readings
3. Individual Answer Sheet about Gases Lab
4. Paragraph Reflection on Chemical Reactions
5. Video Notes on Handout.
