  Week 17 and 18: Jan 17 - 27
Sorry this post is late. We've started our kitchen remodel at home.
Following these weeks are finals. Here is a review document. First Semester Review Guide

Goals:
1. All atoms are made of the same pieces: electons on the outside, protons and neutrons in an inner nucleus.
2. Valence electron shells hold up to eight electrons (or two) and are progressively filled as you go through the periodic table.
3. Know how the periodic table is organized in regards to: metals/non-metals, reactivity, protons, neutrons, electrons, mass, and families' physical properties and chemical formulas.

Activities:
Block day: Do experiment and answer questionsMetal or Non Metal LAb Activity. Homework: Read the article (sorry not available here) and answer questions on the handout: Models of the Atom Homework Table
Thursday: Go over homework. Start Periodic Table Puzzle.
Friday: Work on Periodic Table Puzzle in groups. Present Periodic Tables.
Monday: Flame Test Activity
Blockday: Lecture about electron structure and trends on periodic table. Full class review activity.
Thursday: Review, Quiz and Notebooks
Friday and Monday: Review for Final

Notebook Table of Contents:
1. Lab: Metal or Non-Metal
2. Periodic Table
3. Reading: Model of the Atom
4. Table: Model of the Atom
5. Flame test notes and Lecture Notes.

Honors Option:Nucleus, Fusion, Fission Honors Sheet

  Week 16: Jan 9-13
Goals

1. Be able to list general properties of metals: shiny, malleable, conduct electricity, reactive with oxygen and acid, solid at room temperature.
2. Be able to rank common metals in terms of their reactivity with acid.
3. Be able to write, draw and balance simple reactions.
4. Know that atoms and mass are conserved in a reaction.
5. Use the reactivity series to predict which reactions will occur.
6. Describe the processes through which metals are refined.

Activities:
Mon. React copper Chloride and Nails
Block Day. React Silver Nitrate with Copper Wire. Produce Posters showing results. Homework: Questions about a reading.
Thursday. Reading on Metals and Refining.
Friday: Review, Catch-Up and Quiz

Notebook:
1. Reacting Copper Chloride and Nails
2. Introduction for Lab
3. Questions about Reading "Learn about Metals"
4. Reading and Questions "Metals"
