week7, March 20 -24
Goals: Be able to make and interpret time vs. instantaneous velocity graphs Be able to calculate acceleration from its definition a = change in velocity/change in time Be able to determine accelerations from velocity graphs
Activities Monday -Start Wheelchair race project in groups - each person makes position and velocity graphs from their data link to group project Tuesday -Lecture and practice problems about acceleration (3 problems from overhead projector). Finish first part of group assignment
Wednesday (or Thursday depending on the period) Do second half of group project - assemble the graphs on a poster and critique the racers Thursday (or Friday) Present Posters. Take quiz.
Notebook 1 Data table with calculations for group project 2. Notes and practice problems from board 3. Credit for having graphs made for group project

Week 6, March 13 - March 17
Goals: 1. Be able to calculate average velocity from its definition, vel = change in deistance/change in time. 2. Be able to calculate average velocity from time vs. distance graphs. 3. On a distance vs. time graph, be able to describe how speeds change, based on the slopes of the graph. 4. Be able to interpret time vs. velocity graphs and match them with corresponding time vs. distance graphs.
Activities: Monday: Race Gliders and get teacher signature for having one that glides at least 4 m. Homework: Finish calculating speeds for gliders in competition. Tuesday: Class work on time vs. distance graphs Handout for Lab Work (Periods 1 and 3 won't get the handout until Thursday) Thursday: Additional practice with distance graphs.Link toTime Vs Distance Graph Homework Friday: Practice work with Velocity Graphs. Quiz.
Notebook: 1. Initials for Working Glider 2. Data Table for Running activity (last Thursday.) 3. Glider Data Table 4. Motion Graph classwork 5. Tme vs. Distance Graph homework 6. Velocity Graph Classwork

Week 5 March 6 - 10
Goals: Make a glider that successfully goes 4 meters - design, measure, cut, glue, sand, adjust and problem solve. Be able to calculate average speed (average velocity) with vave = change in distance/ change in time.
Activities: Monday - make gliders Blockday - go over old quiz, work on glider Thursday - 10 min final glider fine tuning, glider competition outside Friday - Collect data about walking and running velocities in hallway
Notebook the notebook will be combined with next week's notebook. For this week there will only be two items. 1. practice velocity problems 2. Data table about runners Important note: Grades are lower than I would like and I have offered several extra credit opportunities. One is finding mistakes on some student posters displayed in class. The other two are linked to below. gliders extra credit link Week 5 honors - dragsters

This site will allow you to see what is happening in Mr. Medley's Academy Science class. I will post weekly goals and activities and make handouts available.
I have a degree in physics from Rice University and I have been teaching since 1994. This is my tenth year at Grant.
I take educating students very seriously and am honored to have you or your child in my class.
