  Week 5 and 6: Oct. 8 -12 and Oct. 16 - 20
The two weeks are being combined because week 5 was a short week.

Goals:
1. Know and be able to apply the vocabulary: variable, independent variable, dependent variable, controlled variable.
2. Understand what happens to the molecules of a substance as its temperature increases.
3. Be able to compare the speeds (rates) of a reaction through using graphs.
4. Know how temperature affects the speed (rate) of a reaction, and be able to explain this effect with particles.

Activities (wk 5):
Mon :Go over returned test. Hypothesize about what affects the rates of chemical reactions. Hypothesize about the affects of temperature on particle behavior.
Block : Reaction Rate Experiment Link to handout, Homework: Finish Graphs of Results
Thursday : Discuss experiment results and finish worksheets. Collect Notebooks. Homework over week end: Variables Worksheet

Activities (wk 6)
Mon: Correct answers to first reaction rate handout and variables worksheet. Review concepts with a game. Homework Graphing Practice Worksheet (sorry this isn't available online.)
Blockday: Work in groups to design a personalized reaction rate experiment. Outline procedure and lay out data table by end of class. handouts for inquiry project
Thursday: Start collecting data for group experiment
Friday: Quiz at beginning of class. Collect data during rest of class. Turn in existing data (about three trials) with notebook.

Honors assignments (for possible extra credit also)
option 1
option 2

Notebook Contents:
1. Reaction Rate Notes
2. Reaction Rate Handout
3. Graphs of Hot and Cold Reaction
4. Variables Worksheet
5. Graphing Practice Worksheet
6. Data Table
