Week 13 Goals and Activities, Dec. 5 - 9
Goals:
1. Be able to classify samples of matter as either pure substance, heterogeneous mixture or homogeneous mixture.
2. Be able to describe on a molecular level what is happening during dissolving and in a solution.
3. Properly use the terms solute, solvent, solution and concentration.
4. Be able to describe several methods for separating mixtures, including filtering and distilling.
5. Be able to interpret solubility curves and know general trends in how the solubility of solids and gases vary with temperature
We will continue to work toward a fuller understanding of these goals next week too.
Activities
Monday: Introduction to mixtures and vocabulary through discussion and lecture.
Block day: Lab - distilling alcohol
Thursday: Go over lab results. Some work time on lab. Start solubility curve worksheets.
Friday: Finish solubility curve worksheets. Review and quiz.
